Term 4 - Week 5 - INQUIRY

LIVE LIFE WITH LESS RUBBISH
As part of our Inquiry study this term, this week we looked at the type of food wrapping we bring to school in our lunch boxes.
We have found that most of the rubbish that we have at school are brought to school by us.
One of the main rubbish identified was food wrappers and especially glad wrap or plastic wrap.

So this was identified as our challenge
HOW CAN WE REDUCE THE PLASTIC LUNCH WRAPPERS AT OUR SCHOOL?
We decided to look at how plastic wrappers get to our school.
They come in our lunch boxes. Glad wrap is used to wrap our sandwiches.
So how are we going to reduce or even stop this from happening?
We thought of designing our own lunch boxes that do not need plastic wrappers like the glad wrap.

We started looking at what type of lunch boxes we all have.

We also put them into categories and we found that the most popular lunch box in our classroom is the one that you need to wrap your food in glad wrap or some covering if you don't want it spilling everywhere inside your lunch box.

Now from here, we have identified that if we don't want all the plastic wrappers at our school we need to stop using this type of lunch box.

We needed to use lunchboxes that don't need you to wrap your food in plastic before putting it inside.

Luckily we had three of these fancy lunch boxes. These lunch boxes have little areas or places that you can put your food into without wrapping it in glad wrap. They also have a small area for a little drink bottle.

But some of us thought that they were too big to carry in our school bag.
So we need to design a lunchbox that can carry our food without being wrapped in glad wrap, but also look cool and small enough to fit into our school bag.

Come back next week to see how we have got on with our designs

See you then!
